Jacob could smell the saline on her cheeks. It wasn't hard to; it stung his nose. He hated crying for that simple reason. The smell stung at his nose and he hated his heightened senses. They were normally useful, but not always. At first, he decided to not say anything. He knew loss; he had lost Bella. He knew that wasn't the same. In some ways, Jake thought that the kind of loss that he had experienced was worse. Bella still existed in this world. Bella was still tangible. Yet in so many ways, she was lost to him. He couldn't get her back, try as hard as he wanted. It frustrated him to no end.
Since returning from his cross country run away spree, Jake had cut his hair. When he had gotten back, it was knotted and mangy and past his shoulders. Now it was a nicer, more respectable length. It rested on his shoulders when he had it down. Right now, it was pulled up in a pony tail. He could still smell the saline and knew that she was still crying. Jake bit down on his lip, pausing for just a second.
"You've been crying," he said. It was a statement. He knew that he was right. She couldn't deny it. Besides, everything about her body language was reading despair. It reminded him of himself in some ways. It made his legs itch; he wanted to run away again. But he couldn't. Not now. Not until after Bella... died. She was going to die. She was going to die and live again. She was making the wrong choice.

"Maybe I have... Does it really matter if I have or not? There's nothing anyone can do really, anyway. It doesn't matter. I'm fine now. Sometimes it just gets to me, you know? The loss of a child is something you never really get over. I'll live though. You have to go on with life. I'm sure everything will work out for the best. For the both of us. I know you're upset too. Your eyes show sadness and emptiness. However, they also show determination. I don't know what you're going through, and I'm not going to ask you, but whatever it is, if you ever need help I'm here. Even if it's just to talk to someone about something, I'm always here if you need me," Angel said softly, smiling a little.
The tears had gone and now only happiness shone through her emerald green eyes. She started humming a little, and started swimming back to the shore. She was getting a little cold, and so went and sat on the sand to dry. While sitting there, just staring at the water some more, her humming slowly developed into a small song. A Spanish lullaby her mother used to sing her to sleep with every night.

While she spoke, Jacob shrugged. It wasn't as if he had cared that she was crying. Just something that he had noticed. "There's nothing I can do about it. I was just commenting on the fact that you were crying." Jake's voice was a cool mask. It was something that he had picked up from Sam. "There is nothing wrong going on in my life, thank you very much." Jake had learned that he didn't need people. But, her lecture did strike a chord in him. He felt a rash of heat bolt down his body and he shook twice before regaining control. He didn't need to phase right in front of her. He would do it later, run and then return home. Like he was meant to. Like a good boy would. Like Bella would want.
Jake dunked himself under the water once more and then got out. He sat down by her on the sand. He wasn't cold at all. He wouldn't be surprised if she could feel the heat waves barreling off of him, too. He didn't care. He pulled his knees to his chest and leaned his head on them. His dark eyes were searching for something, anything. They flew over the water, not finding anything to latch onto.

Angel thought for a moment, before saying to him "I didn't mean to offend you or anger you by what I said. Your reaction showed that you really didn't appreciate it. I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to. I just speak my mind too much. I don't really think before I speak, and I apologise for that. If I ever offend you or hurt you in some way, tell me and I'll make sure not to say something along those lines again. Please?" Angel said, before sighing and falling backwards onto the sand.
She closed her eyes, listening to the cool, blue waves splash up against the sand. She opened one eye, looked at Jacob, and then closed both of her eyes again. "So what do you do for fun around here? This about it or are there other things too?" She asked him, her eyes still closed.

"It's fine," Jacob said in a stoic voice. He could keep the emotion out of his voice, off of his face. It was easy now. He didn't need anyone. He didn't need anything. He was good at being emotionless. Jacob shrugged off of her words. "It doesn't matter," he added, reassuring himself more than he was reassuring her.
"Me? I just got back into town," he allowed. "But for fun, we go cliff diving. I like to ride my motor bike, too. That's always a good time. I taught a friend of mine how to ride, too," he said slowly. He remembered how bad Bella had been - all those trips to the ER - but she had gotten better at it. "If you like shopping, there is always Port Angeles, Tacoma, Seattle," he rambled off the names of some of the bigger towns. "And then of course you can always make the drive to Mt. Rainier or Mt. St. Helen's." Jake shrugged. "There's a lot to do, if you just look around for it."

Angel snorted at the shopping comment. "I absolutely hate shopping. It's probably one of the things I hate most in the world. I'm an odd girl, me. Sometimes I wonder if I am a girl at all. If it weren't for the obvious physical appearance, I would think I was male most of the time... And I think about these things... Don't mind me... I'll just ramble to myself... Well hello, Angel. Hello dear. How are you? I'm fine thank you... I'll stop now..." She said, realising she had made an even bigger idiot of herself. Nice going, Angel. You know, it might help if you'd stop talking to yourself in your head...[/b] "Do you think I'm crazy?" She asked him, smiling a little.
She didn't mind being insane. There were too many people nowadays who were all afraid to just speak out, speak their mind or just be themself. They cared too much what other people thought about them. Angel, luckily, wasn't like that. In fact, she was the exact opposite. She honestly didn't care what people thought about her as long as she was happy with herself. "I'm going to need some way to get around here. Also, I'm going to need a map or something... I'm going to get so lost..." She said, giggling a little.[/size]

Jacob stared at the girl who was talking to herself, not sure of what to say. "You sound like my best friend; she hates shopping too." Jacob smiled at the thought of Bella. His better half. His other half. How he loved her... "No, not crazy. Just a little imbalanced," he teased.
"Can you drive?" Jake wondered out loud. "You could always get a bike... but it's not very practical since it rains all the time here." Jake shook his head, trying to get some of the water from his hair. It was dripping on him and making him uncomfortable. "Newton's probably sells the maps, too," Jake offered.

Angel found herself laughing. "I'll take imbalanced as a compliment, thank you very much," she said, still laughing a little. "I'd quite like to meet your friend. She sounds like my sort of person..." Angel thought for a moment. She hadn't really thought about meeting any other person. She had obviously thought about meeting people, but not someone she already knew a little about. It was new to her.
Angel nodded. "I can drive, yeah. I choose not to, but a bike sounds awesome. Only if you teach me how to ride it, though. No doubt I'll injure myself. Actually, I'm not very clumsy, so I'll just fall off a few times, I think... How much is it likely to cost me?" She asked, actually considering getting one. Why not, Angel? You only live once! She didn't have that much money, though, and doubt she would be able to afford anything too expensive. She needed a job, but had no idea where to get one, or even how anymore. "Do you have any idea how I could earn some extra money at all?"

"She lives in Forks. She is engaged to Edward Cullen," Jake said, trying to sound nonchalant. Edward's name still came out between clenched teeth. "Her name is Bella Swan. She's probably your age; she just graduated from the high school," he added casually, trying to make his voice tone normal. Trying to make his voice not shake. A rash of heat surged though his body, but he suppressed it after just shuddering once or twice.
"I guess it depends on what kind of bike you want. A motor bike, a dirt bike, a bike-bike," Jake said shrugging. "I restored my own bike." He was proud about that. "And an old Volkswagen Rabbit." He was just a tad bit proud of his mechanical skills. Jake grimaced, remembering the warm pops in the paper bag that he used to share with Bella when working on is car or on the bikes. It was too hard anymore. "You could get a job," he said slowly. "I'm sure that someone in Forks is hiring."

Angel watched his movements, fascinated. "Every time something gets to you, be it anger or sadness, you shake violently. It's almost like something big is about to happen. Like you're about to explode or something. I've never seen anything like it. I'm sorry, but it really does fascinate me," she said softly, hoping not to anger him further. "I don't mean it offensively. It was just an observation." She was sure she'd anger him, but it was on her mind and she was very outspoken. Angel had also noticed how tense he'd seemed when he mentioned Edwards name, but she thought better or it.
Thinking for a moment, Angel placed a wary hand on his shoulder. "I know we hardly know each other, and you probably think I'm a raving lunatic, but if you ever need to talk about anything, even if it's just to get rid of some anger. Rant or rave all you want, I don't care. I'm always here if you need me, yeah?" She asked him, a warm smile on her face for him. She only ever smiled like that for a few people, and most had never even seen that side of her. She didn't know why she was showing it to him so soon.

Jake shrugged her comments off. Just because she noticed that he did that didn't mean anything. Sure, some people could say that Jake shook with rage. That was technically true. And he WAS about to explode - into a wolf, that was. It didn't matter. She could say whatever she wanted and that wouldn't make it matter. "It's just my way of dealing with stuff," he said offhandedly, as if that even made sense (nice try, Jake, but it didn't). "Other people have commented on it before, too, so it's cool," he said with a small smile. he tried to be Bella's Jake at that moment- radiating with sunshine and happiness, but he failed.
"Thanks," he said, unsurely. Sure, sure. He'd LOVE someone to rant and rave to, but how do you say: I'm in love with my best friend, but she's gonna marry a bloodsucker / vampire. I'm a werewolf. I shake with rage because that's what happens when I lose control and shift into a werewolf. I'd love nothing more than to tear the vamp's throat out, but I don't wanna hurt her. Oh, by the way, she kissed me and is in love with me, too, even though she was already engaged to her precious Edward. Oh, wait. That's right; you couldn't. you're insane for even thinking thoughts like that. A frown pulled at Jake's face. He was crazy.

Angel looked at his frowning face, this making her frown in confusion. "What are you frowning for? Oh... What you thinking in that head of yours?" She asked, a small smile on her face. She knew that the chances of him telling her were slim to none, so she didn't know why she actually asked. "You don't have to answer if you don't want to. If it's private I'll stay out... I just want to help. I've always been like that. I can't help but try and stick my nose in, just so I can help someone. It sometimes backfires, of course, and I end up making things worse. Just tell me if there's something I can do to help, yeah?" She asked, smiling at him.
"You look kinda sad," she noticed, making a frown come to her face. She pounced on him, tackling him with a hug. "Hugs make everyone feel better!" She yelled, still hugging him. For some reason, Angel felt a surge of energy rush through her, making her act that way. It had happened quite a lot to her, and she knew that it would soon pass and she would become a lot quieter than she was before. "Hug me back, damn you!" She ordered, laughing a little.

Jake tensed before he relaxed. he knew that he didn't have to answer her if he didn't want to.... and he didn't want to. Not just now. Right now... Right now, he needed Bella. It happened; it didn't matter at the moment why he needed her, just that he needed her. "Sure, sure," Jake said in his usual offhand tone. "I just keep things to myself. It's what works for me," he said slowly. He didn't need to explain himself; he knew that.
"Arg," he choked out as she tackled him into a hug. He shoved her away, probably burning her with his unnatural body temperature. That's why he was never too close to anyone; she'd ask questions. It was in human nature. Only Bella got it. Only Bella - HIS Bella - understood that he didn't need to talk. Bella got him when he didn't use words. Bella didn't need her stupid bloodsucker to translate for him. Bella just got Jake. When Angel demanded that he hug her back, his eyes narrowed. "I don't understand you."

Angel didn't handle being hyper well. It made certain things happen that she didn't like. Mood swings, for example. When he narrowed his eyes at her, something inside Angel snapped. She turned instantly irritated and glared at him darkly. "If you don't understand me, tell me. Do not ever push me away, and do not, I repeat, not glare at me. Ever," she warned, standing up and walking away from him a little way, before sitting down a way away from him.
Just shows how you can be wrong about people, Angel. Forget about it. It's not worth you getting worked up over. You don't even know the guy... She thought to herself, trying to calm herself down a little. It didn't really work, however. [/blockquote]

Jake felt slightly ashamed that he had behaved so rudely. He clearly had hurt Angel's feelings and all she was trying to do was be nice and helpful. You're such a screw up, Jake. You can't do anything right. Good job. I'm sure that Bella would just love to beat your ass for this if she finds out. You need to get a handle on your emotions, dummy. Jake closed his eyes and took a couple of deep breaths. When he opened his eyes, he was himself again. "I'm sorry, Angel. Really, I am. So, so sorry."
Jake couldn't admit how much he had liked how the hug had felt. He couldn't.... his... his heart was elsewhere. He didn't see Angel as an object to like. He needed and loved Bella far too much. He would never forget her; when he closed his eyes, she was what he saw. It was so very messed up.
