"She says you're like a drug to her,"
Edward arched a perfect brow at that. The things Bella said..He sighed and straightened up, his arms still folded neatly across his marble chest. Taking a step to the side, he kept his eyes fixed on the La Push kid; his chest fluctuating with his breathing. It was a habit he could not get rid of, even if he didn't need to do it. Breathing had grown on him and he probably would never let go of it. Besides, it would seem inhuman if he were not to breathe. But then again everything about him was inhuman. "Bella," He breathed out; it sounded peaceful and composed in his melting honey voice. It was a sigh. Edward knew fully well how Jacob felt about Bella but he never quite saw it in his perspective. Now that he did, Edward couldn't help but to feel at least a bit of sympathy towards the dog. The feelings subsided and he narrowed his eyes. "Oh, really?" He purred in his velvety voice and vaguely circled Jacob. Usually when he was hunting his prey, they would sense a danger looming when he circled them; hidden among the shadows. But before they could even take flight, he would catch them and feed. Now as he was circling Jacob, there was no lurking danger. His face was no longer twisted into rage, the line of muscles on his arm no longer strained. And his topaz eyes were relatively calm. "Though you're probably right. I never really was the best at 'tracking', I hate to admit." He flashed a brief smile and leaned against the couch, planting his feet firmly on the tiled floor. "I'll talk to Carlisle about it and..and I won't get involved in it. It's fully your and Carlisle's decision." He sighed and he closed his eyes, imagining what his father would say. Carlisle Cullen could quite be unpredictable. Though Edward had a tugging feeling at the back of his head that the answer would be yes. As Jacob began to speak, a flicker of anguish crossed his face before Edward composed it immediately. Bella had saw it too, The fact was exceptionally painful to think of, merely because Bella had probably once wished to be with Jacob. Grimacing, he recalled the time where he told Bella he would not contest in her decision. No matter how much he wanted to, like he would ever tell her that. Gathering his thoughts and pushing them away, he focused his attention back to Jacob. "Would you... give me a day with Bella... if she wants it, I mean, before she's.... before you change her?" Edward stopped short and stared at Jacob; his face unfathomable. Edward had gone tense as images flew and swayed tauntingly in his head. But Bella deserved that much, right? And so did Jacob. Exhaling sharply, Edward peered at Jacob and murmured silkily: "Yes,"

Just because Edward meant no harm, didn't meant that Jacob felt safe being circled. His stomach went into knots and he kept turning his head just to keep his eyes on Edward. He didn't want Edward to attack him. Yeah, he thought that Edward had more class than that... but you could never trust someone you truly despised, right? "Yeah, really," he promised. "I... went North. I didn't know there were more... residents like you in Denali..." Jacob's voice was husky. He hadn't stopped to chat with the Denali clan - last he heard, they weren't too keen on wolves - but their smell was everywhere.
"That's surprising," Jacob said with a grim smile. "Bella seems to think that you're good at everything," he whispered, knowing Edward would be able to hear him. He knew that Bella probably was exaggerating... but who knew?
"Thank you," Jacob said. His voice was soft like a purr. He was happy that Edward would talk to his father about it. Jacob didn't want to go to the hospital - that would make too much of a scene. And he didn't necessarily want to try and come back to the Cullen's household again. It really did seem like Edward was the only one there - Jacob couldn't sense anyone else at the present time, anyway. He didn't know if he would be so lucky the next time he came to call on them. With his luck, it would be Edward's big brother to answer the door.
Jacob, unlike Edward, needed to breath. But while he waited for Edward's answer, he held his breath. He couldn't could on Edward's good grace. When Edward finally answered him, Jacob broke out in a huge grin and took a deep breath. "Thanks," he said in a happy tone. "I'll keep her safe. I just want to say 'bye. Before... before everything changes," he said slowly.
Jacob fell silent for a moment - something that was quite unusual for the pup. "Is she gonna.... is it gonna hurt her?" Jacob's voice was quite as he added, "All of our stories say it's bad..." Jacob whispered something in Quiluete; a portion of a story that relayed the pain involved. It sounded like liquid with the way it flowed, but the tone Jacob said it in was uncertain. When will the stories stop surprising me?

"She says you're like a drug to her,"
Grinning, Edward nodded as Jacob told him of Tanya's coven. "Yeah, they're civilized as well..just like us. Carlisle and them are good friends, I suppose. Though I really doubt they have any werewolf troubles there so I'm sure they would be a bit more..hostile." A smile was in his voice as Edward spoke. The smile faltered a bit at the mention of Bella. In a way, Edward was flattered that she would think so highly of him but it seemed as though Bella only saw his pros..not his cons. Or maybe she was missing the huge fact in front of her -- he was dangerous for her. He could kill her with a wrong twitch of his fingers. Didn't she know that? If she did, why was she still in love with him? The case was closely resembled towards the one in Wuthering Heights. With a grim smile, he lifted his shoulders into a shrug. "Bella exaggerates sometimes."
Edward nodded and looked at the ground vaguely. The patterns in the tiles were hardly intriguing to him but he didn't quite want to see the excitement in Jacobs eyes. "Say bye?" Edward murmured quietly. "I thought you said you were planning to hang out with her once everything changes. Or do you mean 'say bye' to her as a...human?" Was there really a plus side to changing Bella? They would have to fake a death, break peoples hearts and what else? Besides Bella staying with him forever, Edward couldn't help but to feel a small pang of guilt. Edward looked up in surprise at his question. Pressing his lips together firmly, Edward simply nodded and furrowed his eyebrows together. The fact was hard to accept, that his Bella would soon be screaming and thrashing in pain. "Carlisle says that he'll use a lot of morphine on her. You know..so it can ease the pain."

"Then I guess it's good I didn't stop for a cup of tea or whatever," Jacob joked. He had a feeling that they would have been more hostile. In the back of his mind, he remembered what Sam had said... something about another coven in Alaska, dangerous as hell. Jacob wouldn't have been able to keep the whole coven at bay. Maybe one or two, if he were to be attacked, but even then he still would have probably lost. One on one, sure, sure. Bella probably wouldn't have minded, though, if I were out of the picture, he mused silently. He remembered his last pleading effort to get Bella to kiss him before he fought the newborns. It had been trickery, at best, but Jacob wasn't remorseful. He had got what he wanted.
"I had a feeling that she did so," he said softly. He thought about Bella and how she always commented on his mechanic skills. Honestly, it wasn't that hard to see that she could exaggerate. Jacob's skills weren't the best. Sure, sure. Jacob was good and all, but he wasn't the god of mechanics.
"Yeah, that's what I meant," Jacob said hastily. "I just want to say 'bye to Bella... before she's... a vampire," Jacob choked the last word out. He stilled himself for a moment, clearing his mind of any images and of everything. "I think it'll be a while before she'd be able to see me after everything happens... Mostly, Edward... Mostly I just wanna know that she's okay. I... I... I trust you not to kill her, but I can't help but worry about it.." Jacob's eyebrows knitted in confusion. He didn't know how to say what he wanted to and he hoped these struggled words were enough.
"Morphine? Think it'll work?" Jacob wondered in awe. "Is that what they gave her after that James Leach bit her?" He asked, curious. He remembered that vampires name - he had wanted to kill him again and again after Bella told him the story of the odd scar. The scar was cold and a constant reminder about why vampires made for dangerous company.

It was hard to believe. Even now. Bella would probably smile at the scene. Edward and Jacob were actually making an effort to get along, right? But that would probably change after the deal was accepted by Carlisle...if it was. Smiling at the mere thought of Bella, Edward nodded contently. Though that didn't stop Edward from listening to Jacobs thoughts. Again. Fixing his golden optics on Jacob thoughtfully, he frowned in disagreement. Bella would most likely mind if Jacob were out of the picture. He was nearly positive that if he hadn't..talked to her in the first place then perhaps she and Jacob would be together. Or if she hadn't come to him in Italy..Pursing his lips, he listened intently to Jacobs thoughts but was distracted by him speaking. Losing the thoughtful and remote glint in his eyes, he diverted his attention. "Awhile," Edward approved, nodding solemnly. Perhaps a year or so. Just in case it would be enough time, he need not to be hasty with her. Besides Bella might come out differently. There was no fact. Not even Alice could see how she would turn out. "These things take time and with Carlisles' help, she'll be just fine. Though she will a feel..a bit of pain. Nothing to worry about though.." The last few parts were a lie, not entirely true but still a lie. There was no guarantee how little or how much pain she would feel. "You can trust me with that, at least." He muttered, his response coming out a bit too sharp than he originally intended. "I think it's I who should be worried about you not killing her when you say your good-byes. I can trust you with that, right?" His topaz eyes glinted and Edward made a fluent movements towards the other side of the room as if to get away from Jacobs thoughts. Not like he was in his head anymore. Not yet at least.
Frowning, Edward leaned his head back and let out a soft exhale. "Ah, no." He finally admitted. He had figured that Bella had told Jacob about this. Perhaps not. "Not that I remember, at least. I don't think Carlisle was entirely prepared for that. It was just so unexpected! And I could've stopped it! Me! Ugh, I still blame myself. Bella would've never..gone through that..It's honestly my fault. I shouldn't have brought her to that game." For a moment, he had forgotten of Jacobs presence in his own aloud thinking. Grimacing, Edward turned to Jacob. "To get the..venom out, I had to bite her. Not..literally! They had me..suck it out, I guess. He was still ashamed of it but quite triumphant.

Jacob's eye's narrowed. He caught Edward's lie. His voice was calm still, though, as he asked, "What about... You could still slip, right?" Jacob worried about that. "You could drink too much, couldn't you? It's still dangerous, right? It's not exactly the safest thing, right?" Jacob's heart beat faster as he closed his eyes. He could see it - Bella being changed by Edward. He could see it in his mind exactly as how he didn't want it to happen. "Argh," he gasped, opening his eyes. His breath was almost a pant, but not quite.
"You know I wouldn't hurt her!" Jacob exclaimed. His tone, even though he didn't want it to show, was hurt. But as Jacob said those words, images of Bella and all their ER trips while Edward was 'gone' flooded his mind. He pulled at his hair; it was still long enough for Jacob to grab at. He crouched down low, shaking his head. The images kept coming. "Okay, okay, so maybe I was a bit reckless with her... but we wont be. I don't think she cares much for motorbikes anymore. Not since you came home," Jacob said in a quick voice. He stayed crouching though.
"Do you think her life will honestly get any safer when she's like you?" He wondered out loud. He didn't really think that Bella would be more safe. "Vampires can still be killed," he growled. What made him sure that Bella would be any safer as a vampire than as a human? Just because you're made of stone.... Jacob's body shook once with anger but he calmed himself as he stood up.
"She said it was like a rattlesnake," Jacob said slowly, remembering their conversation that was shared over warm soda cans kept in brown paper bags. "You sucked it out like a rattlesnake," he said softly. "Thanks, for saving her..." He knew that Edward had given his thanks before. Well, this was his turn to say thank you. Because if Edward hadn't saved her, if Edward hadn't left, he never would have known what could have been.

If there were someone to judge or rate Edward. There would be several alternatives and they could easily be brought to a vote. For instance, Edward was known widely for his constant mood-swings...or perhaps his over-protectiveness. Or maybe his inhuman beauty, his translucent skin and tousled, bronze hair. That's how Bella usually described him. In response, Edward had always flashed her an uneven smile and say his thanks. In many opinions or point of views, Edward acted incredibly different when he was around his soon-to-be wife. Bella. Then again, she was practically his life; his point of reason in this heaven-ridden place. He would be happy wherever he was as long Bella was there right beside him. Another thing he was known for? Well..Edward always fluctuated. Meaning that at some point in endless time, he could be lost in thought and then suddenly he could be lethally serious. His thoughts were vanished as soon as Jacob's words floated into his head, giving him a reason to listen. Edward's eyes traveled over to the native and he narrowed his brass-colored eyes. The tone was impolite; like that was anything unusual for Jacob Black. A low growl built within him. But could he really be mad at the boys' concern? Not quite.
His tone was adverse. "Yeah, I could slip but I won't. I love her too much to drain her. But you're right. It's not the safest thing but once she's got control of herself, she won't be as clumsy. I don't think at least and she won't be..as delicate as she is now." Somehow the words brought on a new meaning to the vampire. Soon his beloved Bella would get her wish to come true. Edward grimaced.
An eyebrow perked up as Jacob continued to drone. Once again, Edward found himself weaved in Jacob's thoughts. "Right, I can see that." He said darkly; his voice protective. He could clearly see the thoughts racing through the boy's mind. It didn't make Edward exactly happy, at the very least. "A bit?" He abruptly hissed, his mood fluctuating again. Mood swings. "You let her jump off a cliff," The words he spoke could be deemed wrong for it wasn't Jacob's fault. Only Bella's. With a sigh, he ran his fingers through his tousled hair. "You should remember my previous warning. Don't kiss her unless she wants you to. If she doesn't then I will break your jaw." The change of subject was nearly desperate.
"She will be safe! You know that. Your whole pack knows that. We both know that, right now, she is incredibly delicate to both of us. We could both easily kill her unintentionally. Yes, my kind can be killed but not as easily. There are perhaps approximately one hundred ways a human can get killed. But there is only two ways for a vampire. Do you notice the difference in that?" His voice was hard; sharp. "Don't mention it," He murmured, slowly succumbing into a more secured being.

"Well, sorry," Jacob said, his voice turning to acid. He was temperamental at best. "I just don't like the course of action you're taking," he said, crossing his arms over his chest. Just because he was resigned to know that's what Bella wanted didn't mean he had to agree. He took a moment to calm himself, his face as smooth and calm as Edward had ever seen Sam's. "I like Bella clumsy. It makes my life more interesting," he said, smiling to himself. Bella was funny, a source of entertainment to him.
"I didn't let her jump off any damn cliff," Jacob exploded. "I didn't let her. She just did it. Yes, we were planning on it, but it wasn't right. We were going to jump from lower down. I was running, trying to catch Victoria and kill her so that Bella didn't have to freaking worry and have any more stupid nightmares. But no, Bella couldn't wait around because she's Bella and Bella does what Bella does. It wasn't how it was supposed to happen. And," Jacob said, taking a deep breath, the anger clearly having already been vented out of him, "I don't see why you care. Because if she hadn't jumped off that stupid cliff, your sister would have never seen Bella 'die' and you wouldn't have gone to stupid Italy and Bella wouldn't have run after you and then you wouldn't be getting married. So, Cullen, if anything... if anything, you should be thanking me for my recklessness." Okay, it was a horrible case for Jacob to make, and he knew it, but it had all rushed out.
"What if she kisses me?" He wondered. Jacob gave a grim smile. "She wouldn't be very happy if you hurt me. She would be soo pissed at you."
Jacob was hurt. "Yeah, but I could keep her safe, too. And she wouldn't have to die for that to happen." I just want my Bella back.

o.o.c;; I don't knoww. I'll try to make this post a bit more lengthy than my usual ones. [=
"That makes two of us, dog." He muttered, his voice nearly too inaudible for Jake's sensitive ears to catch. His eyes clouded with the strangest of emotion -- regret? Guilt? Either way, he could sense that he knew where Jacob was heading with this. And, grudgingly, Edward agreed. Changing Bella wouldn't be the smartest move but he had no choice. "But I have to." There was a hint of a guttural growl in his voice. Edward thought that everything would've been quite easier if he could change back into a human, instead of taking Bella's life. However, eternity did sound, in a way, appealing. There would be no fear when their lips collided, definitely no fear. He wouldn't danger her like so many times before, and her wish of seeing him hunt would be fulfilled. Edward's lips twitched into a grimace.
A calculating expression flashed across his tranquil, smooth face. Carefully considering his words, he dropped his eyes to the ground, a deep breath shuddering from him. "Even if I was gone, did you honestly think I stopped caring? I left because she was on the verge of danger every moment I spent with her, and I hoped she would move on if she truly believed I did." He murmured these words slowly -- mostly to himself, refusing to go back to the day in the forest when he was saying goodbye. No, he hadn't quite expected her reaction. Once Jacob concluded, Edward's head snapped up -- a expression so evident that he would've seemed he was burning. A burning man, but it was not of anger -- he wore an expression of sheer adamant. Eyes glittering, his eyes traced over the hard lines of the werewolf's face, placing his words together in his mind. "Then thank you, mu-- Jacob. For without you, my Bella wouldn't have been here alive." Sincerity rang in every composed syllable though his eyes remained guarded; impenetrable.
His unyielding expression was wiped clear off his face, his eyes returning to the usual state of honey-gold. One perfect brow curved upward quizzically. "As well you, I don't think she would fancy you kissing her only several weeks before her wedding. But I suppose it's your jaw, dog." His brows pushed together the slightest bit and he shifted his weight mutely. A human habit he had picked up from the rest of his family -- after all, humans didn't just stand still for hours.
Swallowing hard, the line of muscle in his arms tightened and released. "You don't understand, Jacob. There's no way around it, either way she would have to become one of my kind. It's either that or," He paused mid-sentence, smashing his lips together in a hard line firmly. "That or Bella being silenced..permanently." He made an effort to force the last word out, his pointed teeth digging into his marble-smooth bottom lip. Edward ignored Jacob's thought and angled his head so he could stare out the tinted window.

"Really?" Jacob asked, wondering if Edward was being serious. But why wouldn't Edward want precious Bella to be like him? Then they could do the usual couple things - sex, kissing, not having to worry about her being too fragile... yet he's acting like he doesn't want her to even become human? I don't understand... Jacob couldn't comprehend Edward's response. It made no sense to him at all. "You don't have to do anything," Jacob said cooly. "Give me another chance, Edward. Call off the wedding. Give me the chance to show her that she can be human and live her life. Let me show her what she's missing. She's too young... what if she marries you and you change her and she decides later that she wishes she could have kids or something? Why can't you wait?" Jacob was all for Edward waiting. He was all for getting another chance.
"Yes, I did. You left, Edward. You left her here and I picked up the pieces. I did the best that I could. Then you come back and Bella act's like nothing ever happened. It wasn't right the way it happened. It's sick, seeing how she looks at you and loves you, as if those months didn't exist. Sam's beyond pissed at her," he said absentmindedly. He knew that Sam thought that Bella had the one reason to be as mad at the Cullen's as he did. Then Bella did and about face and proved everyone in the pack wrong. Jacob looked at Edward with guarded eyes, a smug smile on his face. "I did what I had to. I guess I should thank you from saving her from that leach that Victoria wanted to kill her for..." Jacob couldn't be bothered with remembering the name of Victoria's mate. It didn't matter to him.
"I think that we've proved that my bones heal pretty fast, even if you were to punch me. Being ready for the wedding is no problem on my part." I wonder if Bella get's cold feet... that'd be kinda funny... To Jacob, it would be funny. Bella doesn't want to get married, anyway. Why is she doing this? It's not like they can have the same benefits of being married - the sex and everything. So... what does Edward have hanging over her head? Why won't he just change her and get the whole damned thing over with?
Jacob pounded his fist into the wall when Edward said the word permanently. "See! You put her in danger all over again. That's not fair. I never, ever put her in that much danger," Jacob said vehemently. Sure, Bella had suffered a couple trips to the ER from cuts and what not from riding a motorbike, but it was nothing like what Edward was putting her through here. It made Jacob sick.

He nodded mutely, various thoughts swaying in his head. There was a sour grimace on his lips and he managed to roll his eyes at Jacob's vile thoughts. There would be no fear at all, he wouldn't have to worry about being extremely careful with Bella -- since she would be stronger than him. She would be stronger than Emmett, even. Brooding over that thought, a tiny smile appeared on his face. He would have to remind Bella to challenge Emmett to an arm-wrestling match soon, when she gained control of herself. His eyes raked over to the Jacob, Edward could clearly hear the pounding of the boys heart as he spoke. "You don't understand, Jacob." Edward murmured through unmoving lips. Honey-colored eyes flashed to the ground. His face could be deemed as ashamed. As if he just committed a crime. That's how it felt at the moment, because it would be no different than murder. Taking a life.
A low hiss came through his cold lips. "I didn't force her to forgive me. She did on her own free will, with the small tribute of time." There was tension in the still air, even as Edward controlled his breathing and let Jacob speak. Bella would be unhappy if he, somehow, beheaded Jacob now. Edward made no attempt to answer to Jacobs' words, but simply nodded once brusquely.
At Jacobs' thoughts, Edward growled quietly and peered up at Jacobs' towering body. His staggering thoughts were enough to get Edward to snap out of his train of thought. "Dammit, dog!" He muttered throatily. "I gave her the chance to live like a normal human, the chance to actually live for once in a while instead of wasting her breath and time with me when her time comes to an end. Now, we've come to a decision, a deal, to be more accurate on my part. Bella wants to be immortal, she wants to become one of my kind without any further delays." His tone was strained as he murmured the last few words. Edward had tried nearly everything to make her reconsider her impenetrable words. College Offer. Dartmouth. A new car. Vacation. Everything. But she had refused, being Bella.
Edward remained silent as Jacob let the words flow out of his mouth. The kid was right, as much as Edward hated to admit mentally. But the Volturi would be expecting to see Bella as an immortal soon, especially Aro. Edward felt the nearly unendurable need to explain this to Jacob, but he couldn't. For the sake of his family. Pushing his lips together in a firm line, listening nonchalantly to Jacobs thoughts, he didn't speak a single word.

"What don't I understand?" Jacob asked, impatience coloring his tone with a bright color. He was being impatient... but there was not one patient bone in Jacob's body. When there was a fight, Jacob wanted to fight. When there was a question, Jacob wanted it to be answered. He was simple in that way. It was probably the most reliable trait that he had, as stupid as that sounded.
"Yeah, well, your sister didn't give her much of a choice," he said as he replayed the scene in his head. His shaking... Alice... Bella... come save him, we've not got much time, Bella! or however the scene had played out. He gritted his teeth together with an audible gnashing sound; he hated that Alice had taken Bella to Italy. That was beyond stupid. That was beyond suicidal or homicidal. That should have counted, in some way, as breaking the treaty... You of all people should uphold the treaty, Jacob, he told himself. After all, you did break it that one time... You're an idiot. You're lucky Sam didn't mime you for that one. Yeah, once, Jacob had told Bella all the legends. But back then, Jacob hadn't believed; he was just a kid. Sam had forgiven him (albeit it was with a grudge).
Jacob listened to Edward's angry words and fell quiet, in mind and mouth. He stared at Edward for a hard second before looking out the window. He didn't want to respond to any of that. Because responding meant that it was over; responding meant that Bella wasn't choosing Jacob. Responding meant that even though Bella didn't want him.... even though she was picking Edward over him... Jacob would continue to waste his life for Bella. If Bella asked him to drop dead, he would. If Bella asked him to leave and never, ever return, Jacob would; he would probably do that on his own, after the wedding. There was no use to being Jacob Black when your best friend wanted you dead. I wonder if those bloodsuckers in Italy would do me a favor.... was the errant thought that crossed his mind before he reeled everything back in. No more thoughts.
